Essex Solutions (formerly Essex Furukawa) was presented with the inaugural Assent Achieve ESG Program of the Year Award at the recent Evolve conference in Nashville on October 10th. The event closed one of the most successful periods for the Vision 2030 holistic sustainability program since its launch in 2021.
Globally, the company achieved a 70% reduction in Scope 3 emissions compared to a 2021 baseline, while proactively identifying potential ESG risks related to human rights and labor rights as well as climate impact through better data and monitoring across the top 90% of the supply chain spend. The company has engaged leadership through the Vision 2030 holistic sustainability program, while also implementing a strategic sourcing policy and new Supplier Code of Conduct this year and as a result of their efforts, recently obtained the prestigious The Copper Mark certification at three North American facilities.
“We have had a remarkable series of successes this year and receiving this Assent Achieve award is a tremendous honor in recognizing the efforts of so many people across the organization,” Austin Robinson, Global Corporate Sustainability Manager, said. “We are proud to be leading the industry through hard work and transparency.”
The company also had its carbon reduction targets accepted by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) during the last year. The validation covers both Scope 1+2 as well as Scope 3 emissions, confirming the efforts to reduce the carbon footprint across the entire operations and value chain.
As part of our broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, the company is engaged in 22 community development programs operating within the locales of its facilities. Additionally, it has made updates to its Supplier Code of Conduct—ensuring that suppliers adhere to robust sustainability standards throughout the supply chain—the same standards the company holds themselves accountable to. Whereas by strengthening the code, Essex Solutions aims to foster greater accountability among its suppliers, ultimately driving transparency and positive impact across the industry.
Essex Solutions also achieved a 98% waste diversion rate globally, achieving the Zero Waste to Landfill distinction. The company diverted over 45,000MT from the landfill during the last period.
Lastly, water conservation goals were added this year. In recognizing the importance of responsible water management, the company aims to implement measures that will not only reduce water consumption but also promote sustainable water practices throughout its operations.
Assent Achieve winners were selected from over 800 Assent customers across three categories: Product Compliance Program of the Year, ESG Program of the Year and Sustainability Champion of the Year categories. Assent provides a leading supply chain sustainability management solution that supports manufacturers across the globe in addressing their product compliance and ESG needs.
“We need to create a world where sustainability is at the core of manufacturing and I am honored to recognize our customers for being true pioneers in the industry and embracing this new reality,” said Andrew Waitman, Assent CEO. “Congratulations to the Assent Achieve winners who are championing proactive sustainability programs to drive this important mission. Together, we are setting new industry standards and demonstrating that companies can thrive while being a force for good.”
As part of the award process, Assent made a monetary donation to One Tree Planted, a nonprofit organization focused on global reforestation, in addition the company contributed to a nonprofit of choice in the name of each winner.
